FAQ

Who’s invited to Winterfest?

All Terriers, and guests of Terriers, near and far.

Can I bring my kids?

From Zumba to Kids’ Fest, many Winterfest events are built for children and families! The program descriptions on the Program page can help you determine which events your kids would enjoy. (We ask that you be sensitive to others when deciding whether or not to bring your child to Alumni College classes.)

Will parking be available?

Yes, free parking will be available in designated University lots on Friday evening and Saturday. Visit Hotels & Parking for more details and to download a Winterfest parking pass.

Can I work out at the Fitness and Recreation Center?

Sure! FitRec is offering free use of its state-of-the-art facilities to all Winterfest attendees on Saturday, January 23. Enjoy the facility’s first-class amenities, including weight rooms and exercise machines, basketball and squash courts, a 1/8-mile indoor jogging track, an Olympic-size lap pool, and a recreation pool with a hot tub and lazy river. Visit the FitRec website for more information.

What should I wear?

“Casual” is the Winterfest watchword. The average temperature on campus in late January is between 20 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. But remember: this is Boston, so anything can happen. If you’re an out-of-towner, check the Weather Channel for Boston’s weekend forecast before you start your trip.

Will the bookstore be open?

Yes! You can stock up on BU gear at the Barnes & Noble at Boston University (660 Beacon Street, in Kenmore Square) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday—and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, if you feel like sticking around for post-Winterfest campus prowling. Don’t forget to show your BU alumni card to get a 10-percent discount! (Print a new alumni card instantly here.)

May I eat in the dining halls?

The West Campus Dining Hall will be open to alumni and friends on Saturday, January 23, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Meals cost $8.95 per person (cash only).

What happens if an event is cancelled due to inclement weather?

If winter weather forces the cancellation of a sporting event or other Winterfest activity, a full refund will be issued as soon after January 23 as possible. Keep a watchful eye on your local television station or call 800-800-3466 for weather-related information.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

Cancel your registration by contacting Alumni Relations at 800-800-3466 or alumni@bu.edu. If you cancel before 5 p.m. EST on January 8, we will refund the cost of your registration in full.
